T.J. was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. As soon as he could walk, his parents had him on a pair of hockey skates. Hockey was his life growing up and he still loves to play and coach any chance he can. Being an athlete for so many years of his life, the gym quickly became his second home. It was a place that he could work on perfecting his craft, but also where he could clear his mind from the daily stress life throws at you. Exercise or “aggressive meditation” as he sometimes calls it, has been a huge part of his life. So, becoming a personal trainer was a natural transition for him. Being a trainer has a lot of perks; but having the opportunity to help guide someone through the process of making legitimate healthy life changes is the best.

You don’t have to be perfect, but you do need to be consistent. This is something that he’s lived by for a long time now. Whether it’s your health and fitness goals, or the success you’re striving for with your personal life. Being as consistent as possible doing the right things, will lead you to the results you’re looking for. The focus he has with each client is always long term. That instant gratification you might get from fad diets and magic weight loss pills will always end up being a waste of your time. He’ll work with you as a team to build a workout routine that works for you!  He wants to help you find a way to think of exercising as something you can be excited about during the week, not a chore. If you’ve never worked out before, hit a plateau with your current program or just need some accountability to get things heading in the right direction; let’s get you set up for your first session!

Ian has always had a keen interest in sports and physical fitness. He studied Taekwondo during his off-duty time in the military and trained as a bodybuilder for 17 years before switching to practicing CrossFit and functional fitness 10 years ago. When not in the gym, he enjoys being outdoors, traveling and spending time with his family.

Ian dedicated 2 years of full-time training to competing in the CrossFit Open, finishing in the top 3% of the Masters Division, world-wide. During that time he focused solely on his goal and learned the value of balancing fitness goals with the rest of his life. “I struggle with balancing work, life and exercise and I believe many other people do, too. I want to help people pursue realistic fitness goals that enhance their life, not goals that take over their life.”

He is happy to talk with and help others in the gym, especially if he can help with safety and form. “Safety is paramount,” he says, “because it’s hard to enjoy your life if you’re always hurt.”
